It's been quite some time since the Central Bureau of Investigation took over the YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case investigation. Moreover, the case was transferred to Telangana from Andhra Pradesh. However, there is no significant growth in the case despite all these developments. The case is already four years old.
Now the case went through a big development with the court expressing anger over the case investigation and asking how long will the agency take for the probe. During a petition hearing, the Supreme Court slammed the agency for the way the case investigation is heading.
Asking how much more time the agency would need to probe the matter, the bench directed the CBI to dig out the main reasons and intentions behind the murder. The Bench said that there is progress in the status report and observed that the investigation officer should be changed or replaced.
The Supreme Court making the comments is not a big surprise if we look at the developments in the case. In 2020, the case was transferred to CBI from the SIT. The Central agency took over the case in 2021 and it's been around two years. But no big development was found in the case yet.
Kadapa MP YS Avinash Reddy was grilled a few times in the case by the CBI. However, there is no information on what evidence the investigating officers found. Moreover, the accused in the case raised several allegations on the officers that they are wantedly being targeted.
The issue reached the Supreme Court after Tulasamma, the wife of Sivasankara Reddy, one of the accused in the murder case moved the Supreme Court seeking directives to change the investigation officer in the case. Hearing the petition, the division bench expressed dissatisfaction over the case status report and said that it will not comment on the case's merit.
The SIT probed the matter for around one year. After YS Jagan Mohan Reddy came to power an SIT was formed. Saying that there is no good growth in the case, YS Viveka's daughter Sunitha demanded a CBI probe and got the case diverted to Telangana.
