For a very long time, there has been a demand that women's IPL should also be started so that Women's cricket will get a big push. Things worked well and the Cricket governing body in India Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) started the bidding for the teams.

Five franchises were introduced in the Women's IPL tournament. Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Lucknow are the teams that were bidded. This resulted in BCCI getting close to around Rs 5,000 crores. The body got a big start for the IPL.
