New Covid cases go past 3 lakh, highest in eight months!

In an unwanted turn of events, India is reporting problematic scenes due to the Covid rapid spread. Raising many fears and concerns, India saw a record number of single-day infections in the past 24 hours. The official data sheds light on the massive jump in the fresh infections caused by Covid.

Breaking the 3 lakh mark, as many as 3,17,532 people were infected with the virus. Probably India crossed the 3-lakh mark for the first time in recent times. After reporting close to 3 lakh cases the other day, India crossed the mark in the past 24 hours. The last time India saw more than three lakh single-day cases was back in May last year

As the single-day cases went up massively, the active cases are heading towards 20 lakh with 19,24,051 active cases of the virus.

For one more time, the fresh cases have beaten the single-day recoveries. While 3,17,532 fresh cases were reported, as many as 2,23,990 Covid patients were declared cured of the virus. On the flip side, a total of 3,58,07,029 patients have managed to beat the virus. The recovery rate saw a dip and the daily positivity rate went up.

Maharashtra and the national capital Delhi reported the highest number of cases state-wise. While Maharashtra reported 43,697 Covid cases and 49 casualties, Delhi saw 13,785 cases in the past 24 hours. Maharashtra also tops the list of states that has the highest Omicron infections with 1,738, and West Bengal stood in second place. 29 states have reported Omicron cases already and as many as 9,287 Omicron-triggered cases were reported in the country so far.

Looking at the casualties caused by the deadly virus, the count went up to 4,87,693 after 491 people lost their lives in the past 24 hours.

A recent study that was conducted to predict the rise in the Covid cases says that a few states might face the wrath of the virus and as a result, these states will report a big jump in fresh cases. However, despite facing the peaks of the virus next week, India is likely to not go past the 4 lakh mark.
