High Court Asks Dhanush: Will Your Rolls Royce Car Fly In Air?

Very recently. Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay faced the wrath of the Madras High Court after he approached the court, seeking exemption from paying the import tax for importing his luxury car, Rolls Royce Ghost. The court rejected his plea and further fined him Rs 1 lakh for not paying the import fee on time. The court asked Vijay to stand by all the social message dialogues that he delivers in his films. The star actor then had to mend his way and paid the pending import fee.

Now, it is the turn of another star Tamil actor, Dhanush to stand in the firing line as the High Court came down heavily on him for requesting an exemption from paying the import fee after importing a Rolls Royce car back in 2015. He had already paid 50% of the import fee which roughly amounts to Rs 30 lakh and requested the court to exempt him from paying the remaining amount. The plea was lodged in 2015.

Today, the High Court bought the case to hearing and after inspecting the details, the high court judge came down heavily on Dhanush. "Common people are paying taxes. Every person who buys a bar of soap and fills petrol for ever Rs 50 is paying tax to the government. Why can't VIPs like you pay the taxes promptly? Will your Rolls Royce Cars fly in the air? They too will have to go on the roads that are laid with taxpayers' money. You will have to pay the import fee for your car. Even if you buy a helicopter you have to pay the relevant taxes. There are no two ways about it. I have never seen such a plea for exemption of tax in my experience. I can't believe you asked for something like this,' the high court judge said.

Dhanush's counsel agreed to pay the remaining import fee by the 9th of August. The remaining fee which roughly amounts to around Rs 30 lakh will have to be paid by Dhanush by the 9th of August, as stated by himself earlier today.
