Box Office Verdict Not So Encouraging For Tollywood!

After a huge gap, the theatres have opened once again and a couple of interesting films were released this Friday. The distributors and exhibitors were eager to know how the audience would embrace the reopening of theatres. 'Thimmarusu' and 'Ishq – Not A Love Story' were the notable movies which came out on Friday and the ticket windows are expected to be busy with many people.

After the second lockdown, people are not in a mood to walk into the theatres straight away. The promotions were really good for these two movies but they did no help in any way as per the trade reports. The footfalls were quite low and there seem to be multiple reasons for it. The AP government had only 50 percent occupancy which may have led to a dip in collections. As we said earlier, the people were not ready to go back to theatres. Experts say that both 'Thimmarusu' and ‘Ishq – Not A Love Story’ are remakes of hit Kannada and Malayalam movies respectively. The original versions are available on OTT platforms and this might be one of the main reasons.

Since both these movies are small films, people may not be interested in watching them in theatres. Analysts claim that things would've been better if a big hero film comes out first instead of small fans. After the first lockdown, Sai Tej's 'Solo Brathuke So Better' was released in December and it was followed by big films like Ravi Teja's 'Krack', 'Vijay's 'Master' and Ram's 'RED'. These movies dragged movie lovers into the theatres. But this is not the case this time. The big and notable films are yet to announce their release dates.

Reports suggest that the situation of COVID-19 may continue for another two months which makes it even harder for the film industry. News is that a couple of shows were canceled on the first day and we need to see how the theatrical run of Satyadev and Teja Sajja's films go. The film industry is busy with completing the film shootings right now more than the releases as they are pinning a lot of hopes on the upcoming festive seasons.
