Will this cricketer have a second innings in politics?

Will cricketer Navjot Singh Siddu get a second innings to play his political game? Well! The Congress High Command indeed wants to give him another innings. Sonia Gandhi is said to be planning to make him the deputy chief minister of Punjab ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. She wants to put an end to all the bad blood between Sidhu and Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.

Both Amarinder and Sidhu have been at loggerheads for quite some time. They are not even on talking terms. Amarinder edged out Sidhu from the government, while Sidhu left no opportunity to spite at Amarinder. The high command tried every trick in the trade to bring them together and end the dispute. Though party affairs incharge for Punjab Harish Rawat tried to give some concessions to Sidhu, Amarinder had opposed it. Now Sonia Gandhi herself stepped in and began efforts to end the impasse. According to Congress sources, she is planning to make Sidhu the deputy CM.  If Amarinder does not relent, he could be made the chairperson of the party's election campaign committee.

Punjab is going to polls early next year and it is only the second state in the country where the Congress is in power on its own. In states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand, it shares power with other parties as part of the coalition. Hence, retaining Punjab is very important for the Congress Party.
