Chiranjeevi Pays His Last Respects To Gollapudi

Gollapudi Maruthi Rao born in 1939, started his career at the age of 14 as a writer and by 19 he found a job in All India Radio, as a presenter.

He became a Station Master, by the time he retired from his job to become a full-time writer and actor in movies, at the age of 42, in 1981-82.

He started his career as a screenwriter for Annapurna Pictures as Dukkipati Madhusudhan Rao liked his stories, reviews for films.

He slowly learnt the craft of screenwriting under K. Viswanath, Mullapudi Venkataramana as his co-writers under the direction of Adurthi Subbarao. He later became one of the top most writers in Telugu Cinema by 1980.

From 1973 to 1980, he wrote big stars films even though Jandhyala became his greatest competition with Athreya, slowly losing his market and D. Narasaraju becoming too old.

As Paruchuri Bothers, Satyanand, Jandhayala became huge writers, he sticked to acting and continued his passion to write by writing novels, stage dramas, whenever he got time.

He died at the age of 80, in Chennai due to prolonged illness and his dear friend, co-star of his first movie, Intlo Ramayya Veedhilo Krishnayya, Megastar Chiranjeevi flew to Chennai to pay his last respects to the legend.

Gollapudi Maruthi Rao's last rites will be held in Chennai at Kannamma Crematory in the afternoon time, on Sunday, 15th December.
