Minister of Civil Aviation Hardeep Puri, who addressed the Parliament, said that the revenue of the Indian airlines went down by 85.7 percent and during the four months as many as 18,027 jobs were lost.
Replying to a question in the house, Aviation MinisterHardeep Puri said that the revenue of the airport operations went down to Rs 894 crore April-June 2020 compared to Rs 5,745 crore during April-June 2019.
The most number of jobs were lost in the Airline Sector (5,298), Airport sector(3,246), Ground handling division(8,466), and Cargo Operations(1,017) with the pandemic outbreak.
The Centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi permitted Indian Airlines to resume the operations on May 25 to see that the Aviation sector recovers from the severe loss.
However, passengers still fear to see Airlines as the means of transport as the fresh cases are increasing day by day. For more than five days, India has been reporting over 90,000 new infections.
