The Ministry of Home affairs has issued an alert to all state governments and the election commission officials to be on high alert to prevent any untoward incident during the counting process. The directive comes in the wake of unconfirmed reports that there might be some arson orchestrated by some sections of the political groups. In fact, one leader, Om Prakash Rajbhar of the Suheldev Bharatiya Praja Party, has threatened bloodshed.
Meanwhile, there are reports that AIADMK has asked its cadre to remain alert to DMK machinations at the counting centres. It said the DMK is known for its dirty tricks. There are also reports that some Opposition Parties are planning to deploy lawyers at the counting centres to create ruckus over the counting process. As a precautionary measure, the CEC also issued a statement listing out the security measures taken at the strong rooms where the EVMs are stored. One only hopes that the counting goes peacefully and in an eventless manner.
