Triple Talaq Bill Passed In Rajya Sabha

NDA Government succeeded in obtaining a clearance for Triple Talaq Bill in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. The Upper House passed the Triple Talaq Bill with 99 to 84 votes. This is a big victory for NDA Govt which doesn't have majority in the Rajya Sabha.

JDU, AIADMK & TRS abstrained from voting on Triple Talaq Bill. While 14 members were absent, There are three vacancies in the house. This brought down the strength of Rajya Sabha to 216. BJP requires 109 votes to pass the bill. Support from Biju Kanata Dal increased the strength of NDA-plus to 113 MPs. Several MPs of Congress, SP and NCP didn't take part in the voting.

The Muslim Women ( Protection of Rights on Marriage) will now reach President of India for approval. If it gets the consent of Ram Math Kovind, Triple Talaq become a punishable offense with three years jail term.
