Tihar jail officials issues notice to Niebhaya case convicts

Tihar Jail authorities have issued a notice to the Nirbhaya gang-rape convicts to file a mercy petition within 7 days. If they do not file the mercy petition in the given time, the jail administration will concern the court for further proceedings.

Earlier, the Patiala House court adjourned for January 7 the hearing on the issuance of the death warrants against the convicts in the December 16, 2012v case.


Nirbhaya parents watched the proceedings in the case at the Supreme Court and the Patiala House court.

The 23-year-old paramedic student was raped on the intervening night of December 16-17, 2012 inside a running bus in south Delhi by six persons and severely assaulted before being thrown out on the road. She died on December 29, 2012, at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore. One of the accused Ram Singh had hanged himself in the jail and another, the juvenile, was convicted of rape and murder and given the maximum sentence of three years’ imprisonment in a reform facility.
