What Went Wrong?: TRS Asks Itself

Tap to expand
Six months ago,  the whole state of Telangana looked pink. The Congress stood decimated. The BJP was stunned with the result. It had just one MLA seat. It was TRS all the way. But, within six months the tables are turned. The TRS today looked too dazed to respond. The first election under KTR as party president proved to be a big disappointment for the TRS.

What more, the BJP and the Congress have literally snatched four seats each from the TRS. The TRS had won Bhongir, Nalgonda, Chevella and Malkajgiri, while the BJP won Karimnagar, Secunderabad, Nizamabad and Adilabad. But, the biggest shock is not in losing seats. TRS boss KCR's daughter Kavitha Kalwakuntla was badly mauled by underdog Dharmapuri Srinivas. His close relative and two-time MP Vinod too has lost badly to Bandi Sanjay of the BJP.

The TRS was so shocked that till evening it did not come out with a press conference. If one counts the total assembly constituencies in these eight MP seats, it is around 65 assembly seats. If elections are held to the assembly today, the TRS would lose power. The TRS core group is trying to analyse what went wrong and how to arrest the downslide.

Many say TRS boss's highhanded behaviour and arrogance are responsible for the sorry state of the TRS today. Despite winning nearly half the seats, the party is shocked at the reversals.
