Ever since YS Jagan, a practicing Christian, became the chief minister, there has been a concerted attempt to portray him as a supporter of Christian conversion and even old bus tickets printed during the TDP regime were used to malign YS Jagan. In a similar incident in Vadlamuru in Peddapuram mandal of East Godawari, a ration card dealer published the image of Jesus Christ on the ration cards given to the people. The ration shop owner Mangadevi is wife of a TDP leader. Earlier, the ration cards had the image of Lord Venkateswara in 2017 and Saibaba in 2016. But this time, he deliberately chose Jesus Christ's image.
The ration card with the image of Jesus was made viral on the social media, sparking outrage among the Hindus. However, enquiries showed that this was a deliberate attempt aimed at vilifying the ruling YSRCP. Action is now being initiated against Manga Devi.
