Government Orders Not To Wash Clothes, Here Are The Facts!

Recently an incident grabbed the attention of the people that residents of North Carolina town are asked not to wash clothes for a week by the officials

The public works department in Surf City told residents through Facebook posts to avoid laundry for one week. The Public Works Department will begin a directional flush of the hydrants and waterlines from October 7th through October 11th. The purpose of this flush is to remove excess iron from the water lines. Residents may experience discolored water. This excess water posses no health risk, but residents are discouraged from washing clothes during this time. Water should clear up through normal use. The area affected will be all Pender County Island Residents.


The post did not explain why water would be unsafe for clothes. According to Environmental alternatives, high amounts of iron in water can discolor it and staining of clothes.
