Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a commemorative Rs 150 coins on the occasion of 150th BIrth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

PM Modi launched the commemorative coin in Ahmedabad, Gujarat when he had reached Sabarmati Riverfront for the 'Swachh Bharat Diwas' program in the state. Along with PM, Chief Miniter Vijay Rupani was also present at the launch.

What are Commemorative Coins?

Commemorative coins are released to mark some special events. Most of the commemorative coins are treated as collectibles and they are a beautiful treasure for the coin collectors.

Some other commemorative coins by the Modi Government

 In January 2019, Modi released a commemorative coins Rs 350 to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh, one of the prominent leaders of the Sikh community. Last year, PM Modi had released a commemorative Rs 100 coins in memory of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

India's first commemorative coin

The first set of commemorative coins was issued on November 14, 1964, on the occasion of the 75th birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
