Is BR Going To Be India's Most Powerful Man?

Announcement of post of a Chief of Defence Staff  (CDS) is the major highlight of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day address. This is an attempt to maintain good coordination between the operations of Indian Army, Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force.

Actually, A High-Level Committee submitted a report to the Union Government regarding the steps need to be taken for strengthening the national security system post 1999 Kargil War. However, The decision to create Chief of Defence Staff Post was kept pending for almost two decades due to the opposition from within Army, Navy and Air Force over the appointment of Chief of Defence Staff.

On Independence Day, Modi opined India can't fall behind by thinking in a bubble and reforms are necessary. He declared all the three forces will work under one chief and this step brings unity among the three forces.

Current Army Chief Bipin Rawat is the front-runner to be the first Chief of Defence Staff. Does Modi comes up with a big surprise?
