The income tax department has seized Rs 5 crore cash during raids against the former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara and others.

The raids are in connection with the multi-crore tax evasion case linked to the NEET exams.

The officials said the raids began on Thursday and continued on Friday, were carried out at nearly 25 locations. Over 300 income tax officials searched properties linked to Parameshwara and former Congress MP RL Jalappa's son J Rajendra.

IT officials say Parameswaran has been interrogated for eleven hours in his residence and the authorities conducted searches at his son's house at the same time. The officials seize key documents and Hard disks.

While Parameshwara's family runs the Siddhartha Group of Institutions, which were established by his father H M Gangadharaiah 58 years old, Rajendra runs the RL Jalappa Institute of Technology at Doddaballapura and Kolar

G Parameshwara was the Deputy Chief Minister of HD Kumaraswamy's JD(s)-Congress coalition government that collapsed in July after losing trust vote in the assembly.
