Swami Sivananda was en-route from Kolkata to London when murmurs spread of his age, after which photos spread on social media of the gentleman with various employees at Abu Dubai International Airport.
While doubts exist on the validity of the date of birth (August 8, 1896 ) on his document, Sivananda puts his longevity down to a lifelong regime involving plenty of Yoga, no sex or fancy foods, and sleeping on just a mat with a wooden slab for a pillow.
Mr. Sivananda lost both parents before he was six and he was given away by his relatives of a spiritual guru, with whom he traveled around India before settling in the holy city of Varanasi.
Worldwide, the average life expectancy at birth was 71 years ( 70 years for males and 72 years for females ) throughout 2019-2015 according to United Nations World Population Prospects 2015 Revision.
According to the 2015 World Health Organisation (WHO ) data, women on average live longer than men in all major regions and in all individual countries except Mali and Eswatini (Switzerland).
