Is DMK planning to move away from the Congress? It appears so. The DMK has not just skipped the all-party meeting organised by the Congress, but has eve announced that the DMK would be least bothered if Congress wants to walk out on alliance with the DMK. The statement came from no less a person than key leader and party treasurer Durai Murugan. He even said that there is no problem if the Congress leaves the alliance. "We will lose about 3 per cent votes if Congress stays with us," he added.

For the past few days, the DMK has been finding that the relations with the Congress are on a downslide. They are upset at the Tamil Nadu PCC chief Alagiri's statement that the DMK has violated the coalition dharma. The DMK said that it was upset with such statements. The alliance with the Congress was the biggest face-saver for the UPA. The Congress had won the largest number of MP seats from Tamil Nadu after Kerala. The alliance had helped the Congress get at least 50 MP sats.

The DMK is realising that several key allies are trying to move away from the Congress. KCR has completely abandoned the Congress in Telangana. Trinamool Congress in West Bengal too has severed its ties with the Congress. In UP, neither the SP nor the BSP are with the Congress Party. Realising this, the DMK has upped its ante against the Congress and is questioning its leadership at the national level. The latest statements from the DMK top brass are indicative of the change in the DMK attitude towards the Congress.
