In the wee hours of Saturday, ISRO lost contact with Vikram lander just when soft landing was expected to happen near Moon's South Pole. Vikram lander stopped transmitting when it was 2.1 kilometres away from Moon's surface.
Chandrayaan-2 was a Rs 1,000 crore mission. India would have been only the fourth nation in the World to accomplish such a mission had if Vikram lander made a soft landing on the Moon's surface. USA, Russia and China achieved this feat so far. India would have been the first nation to complete soft landing near the South Pole if the connect between ISRO and Vikram lander wasn't lost.
ISRO Chief admitted faulty execution of the last stage of the operation was the reason behind the loss of communication with Vikram lander. He described it as '15 minutes of terror' as its a complex process even for those who had already done it.
