3-Capitals: Centre Pours Cold Water On TDP

In a significant announcement that will warm the cockles of the ruling YSRCP in AP, the Central Government has categorically said that it has not role in deciding the location of the capital of a state and refused to ask the AP Government not to shift the capital from Amaravati. This stand has left the TDP bewildered.

In a written reply to TDP MP Galla Jayadev's question in Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said that it was for the states to decide on own capital within its territory. He further refused to react to Galla Jayadev's question on whether it would advise the state government against moving the capital to other place. Interestingly, this is what BJP's Rajya Sabha MP GVL Narasimha Rao has been saying all along on this issue. This order comes at a time when the TDP, Jana Sena and even a section of the BJP were opposing the shifting of the capital from Amaravati to Vizag and Kurnool.

The ruling YSRCP, as expected, is in an upbeat mood over the latest pronouncement by the Centre. The YSRCP now is planning to undertake a massive mass contact programme across the state to reach out to the people on this issue.
